Although the weather is certainly letting us know that winter is here, going out for a walk is still something that is not just good for the body but also for the mind. There are many beautiful places that you can enjoy a walk in the UK whatever the season, and winter brings with it its own array of natural spectacles to enjoy.

At this time of the year, being prepared is important as you will be likely to encounter more treacherous weather conditions for walking, however with a bit of help and common sense you can still enjoy a winter’s walk.

Keeping warm is important as the cold can lead to all sorts of health problems. Wear clothing that is lightweight yet can help you to stay warm and dry, as this will make it a much more pleasant experience. Footwear too should be suitable for the conditions – it may be slippery with ice or mud, so a good pair of walking boots is necessary.

If you struggle with mobility, but want to get out and enjoy the countryside in the winter, you still can do this. Mobility aids like this are not just for the home and can help you to safely get out and about to enjoy the beautiful winter countryside.

If you are going walking, staying hydrated is also important, so remember to pack some water and a flask of warm tea or soup to keep you warm on those chilly days.
