How to simple tile laying works

When renovating the bathroom or kitchen, many hobby craftsmen rely on tiles and mosaics as they are easy to clean and robust. For the tiling of the ground, however, skill is required. This is the only way to get a perfect leveling mirror in the end and avoid cracks and cracks in the plates if the load is uneven.

tileThe right tiles save trouble

Before you go to the tiling of the floor, you should choose the right tiles. Here, not only the look is important. Also, the load capacity and size are decisive, whether you will later have a long time for your new kitchen or bathroom floor. The most suitable are glazed tiles of abrasion class 4.

To avoid a material bottleneck, you should include some wear in your calculations. Often, tiles have a small crack or splinter when trimming. To save yourself anger, you buy about 10 percent more tiles than you want. In addition, you can also use remaining tiles for later repairs – some models are no longer available in retail after some years.

Bathroom renovation almost without dirt and noise. The method also saves a lot of time. But you have to know what you are doing to keep the new tiles as well.

Glue the tile to the tile

If you have a floor heating in the room, you should also consider this. For underfloor heating, you must use special subsoil and tile glue – these reduce the heat loss. In addition, these special products for floor heating systems allow flexible expansion and contraction and prevent stressed tiles from breaking. Observe the manufacturer’s instructions when processing the material.

tileA flat surface protects tiles

When laying tiles, the preliminary work is particularly important. It is only on a level, uniform surface that tiles can be laid correctly and later cracks and cracks in the boards can be prevented.

Before applying the tile base, remove the soil sufficiently from dust, grease, and other residues. Also, make sure that the floor is stable. You can then apply the screen and tile floor. If this is completely dried, you can lay the tiles. For large tiles, you should also apply a self-leveling flooring compound on the screen. This prevents uneven loading of individual plates. In addition, check with a water scale whether the substrate is level and must be reworked accordingly.

First align, then embarrass

If you are unsure, first place a tile row dry, ie to the sample. This allows you to estimate the required tile quantity, as well as the time and effort required. Also, the orientation of the tiles can still be changed.

To ensure that the tiles run parallel to the wall and create a pleasant appearance later, pull two guideline strings through the room before laying. Both should be at right angles to the wall and cross over in the center of the room.

tileApply the adhesive tape correctly

Stir the pastry according to the manufacturer’s instructions and place it in the place where you want to lay the tiles. This is best done step by step and section by section. This is to avoid that the glue is already dried before you can lay the tiles.

With a trowel, you can apply the trowel as desired. Optimal is a thickness of five to ten millimeters. It is important to apply evenly so that the substrate is still planar and flat. Then comb through the compound before using the tile in the glue. With a small rubber hammer, you can easily tap the tile.

How to lay tiles correctly?

For the simple tiling of the floor, parallel laying is ideal. With this method, you work along the directional line in the middle to the walls – from the inside out. To do this, place the first tile exactly where the two strings cross. You are free to choose whether to align the tile with the joint or to align the string cross with the tile center. The alignment at the joint is easier.

After you have laid the first row, complete the row of tiles on the wall so that L-shape forms. When laying tiles, do not forget to leave a suitable expansion joint. If this joint is omitted, it can lead to stress cracks in the tiles due to excessive heat.

tileJoints protect the tiles

After the tiles are laid and the tile glue is dried, you can fill the gaps. Here, too, you will find sections. Pour the adhesive onto the plates and distribute them evenly with the gaps in the gaps. When cornering, expansion and connection joints are to be avoided. These are then sealed with permanently elastic joint silicone.

For tiling in the bathroom or in the kitchen, you should only use waterproof joint mortar. This prevents water from penetrating into the joints and thus into the tiles. The plates could burst or mold through the water.

After grouting, you can clean the tiles with a little water. It is important not to use too much water, otherwise, the mortar will be washed out of the joints again. Once the joints are completely dried, you can thoroughly clean the tiles.
